Waterville Sprint Tri

Today turned out to be a mild mainly dry day and thankfully good for Triathlon. I collected Guillaume this morning at 6.55am and we headed off to Waterville to compete in the sprint.
The swim was to be honest a disaster and I had to stop to clean out my goggles and just overall didn't go well.
I got out of the water determined to carry on and make the best of it. It was a hilly course one I know on another day would feel tough but it felt grand today I kept waiting for the difficult parts of the hills to come but they seemed gradual for the most part and I was happy with my pace passing plenty of people on the way up...large climbs mean large declines and this was a different story I was a bit cautious and passed by four people on the decline...all my hard work done I couldn't wait to see some hill again to try to pull them back and the hill came on the back road out of caherdaniel I must of passed at least 8 maybe 10 here and when we hit the decline again I was determined to let fly the descent was the longest and fastest I had ever done with breath taking views of the ring of Kerry as well as long drops over the small stone walls two guys passed me and not much I could do about it they were flying and I was not prepared to push anymore...so to the run we went I stopped counting the people coming against me as I just wanted to concentrate on my own run I passed 4 runners before getting over the line.
A finish time of 1.30..and placed 8th overall and 2nd in my age group my best result to date for a sprint or anything... .Also I got a prize as the pro athlete who beat me came first getting the overall win so the age group win went to me am delighted with that.(:
There were two teams from work and two individuals taking part for their first time who did very well on what was a really tough course for a first race so well done to them all too it turned out to be a great day am looking forward to the next one.
